Wachemo University of Ethiopia has sought the cooperation of Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) in developing Agricultural Education System and Research in their country according to their resources and requirements.
The two universities have signed a memorandum of understanding in this connection. The MoU was signed by PJTSAU Registrar S Sudheer Kumar, and Wachemo University Academic Affairs Vice-President Adane Haile Kobamo in the presence of PJTSAU Vice-Chancellor V Praveen Rao.
The Vice-Chancellor explained the delegates of Wachemo University about the mandate and activities of the university in Teaching, Research, and Extension. He also informed that the university has been playing a key role in agricultural development in newly formed Telangana and reorienting the research priorities to suit with the government policies to ensure profitable agriculture for farming community.
Within a short span of time, the university had adjudged third rank in South India and 12th rank among 73 agricultural universities in the country, he said.
The Ethiopian University team Adane Haile Kobamo, Gollapudi Muralidhar, Advisor of Wachemo University requested the Vice Chancellor to extend support in developing Agriculture Education Curriculum to cater the needs of their country. They also requested to offer courses for their students, particularly in masters and research programs. They also requested for exchange of faculty to develop and strengthen their capabilities in agriculture education.
In response to Wachemo University’s proposal, the VC advised the Director, International Programs of the university to work out the possibilities where the university can immediately collaborate with Ethiopian university and also fulfill the statutory requirements as well.
PJTSAU University officers KS Dangi, Sudheer Kumar, T Pradeep, Vishnuvardhan Reddy, Jamuna Rani, Mrunalini, K V S Meena Kumari, Sadasiva Rao, Laxman were present.

The Academic Affairs Vice President of Wachemo University, Dr. Adane Haile, will be on a 15 day visit to India, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, from December 22, 2017 to January 5, 2018. He will be signing MoU's with several prestigious Universities in areas of mutual interest between Wachemo Universities and other academic institutions. According to the Academic Vice-president of the University, signing of the Memorandum of Understanding is believed to have numerous outcomes. There will be Guest lecturers or Visiting Professors from partnering Universities. Launching Joint or dual degree program and undertaking collaborative research projects in different thematic research areas identified by WCU will be other possible outputs of this initiative. It is also believed that WCU students and academic staffs will have scholarship opportunities to peruse their education at different undergraduate as well as postgraduate programs. In relation to this the AAVP said that, as a part of standardizing and increasing academic staff profile of the University, the office for Academic Affairs Vice-president works aggressively to meet the 0:70:30 ratio, which is to have 70% of Academic staff to have at least Master’s Degree, 30% to be PhD holders and 0% Bachelor holders. To this end, he added, the office has planned around 100 academic staffs to get opportunity to peruse their postgraduate studies abroad by 2018.
Apart from this, the University, he said, will focus on entrepreneurship development and it will be on top priority.
Finally, the Dr. Adane concluded his remark by expressing that 2018 will be a year of transformation for Wachemo University.
The conference was organized by Wachemo University Office of Vice President for Research and Community Service from June 2-3, 2017. The theme of the conference was “”. Various guests and presenters were invited from different parts of the country. At the beginning of the conference, Ergogie Tesfaye (PhD Candidate) Vice President for Research and Community Service of Wachemo University made a welcoming speech. Following this, an opening speech was conveyed by Dr. Tassew Gebre, the President of the Wachemo University. A keynote speech was made by Professor Habtamu Wondimu about the usage of research and community service for the participants. After this, an overview of Research and Community Service of the University was presented by Mr. Ashenafi Abebe, Research and Development Directorate Director. Then, presentation on “ ” was made by Professor Teketel Yohannes followed by Mr. Daniel Manore’s presentation on “ ”. Camelina, among various uses, is a plant used to prepare oil. Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute also assured this and has given certificate because the University has found this for the first time. Discussion was made on two of the presentations. Then, gifts and group photos were taken. In the afternoon, three presentations were made by Dr. Ing. Getachew Shunki, Dr. Temesgen Abiyo and Dr. Riyaz Ahmed Rather in the plenary sessions. Following this, parallel sessions’ presentations and discussions were made in three halls in the following day. Generally, the findings of 41 oral presentations and 8 posters presentations were presented within the two dates. Finally after the successful completion of the presentations, certificate was given to presenters and closing remark was made by Mr. Nebiyu Dereje, Chief Executive Director for College of Medicine and Health Sciences.
