Message from the Department Head

Department of Biology in the College of Natural and Computational Sciences was established during the academic year 2012 G.C. along with other academic Departments. Currently, there are 26 instructors and 7 technical assistants in the Department. Among 26 instructors, 19 are at work, whereas 7 are attending their MSc. and PhD programs at different universities in Ethiopia and abroad. Currently, in the Department, 950 students are attending their study in various programs. Among these, 100 second and third-year students attend the regular program, and more than 850 students attend the extension program on weekends and summer.


The curriculum in the Biology program has been prepared to guide students through well-established biological science and academic courses so that efficient and productive citizens would be the output in the future. The undergraduate program introduces students to the full breadth of independent thinking and self-expression in practical and research modes of biological sciences. The Postgraduate program also helps students to be critical thinkers and researchers in the area. Outstanding students are offered to work as Teaching Assistants in the Department.


The Department has many roles in accordance with the vision and mission of Wachemo University in establishing quality education and taking up scientific research programs in the university.
