Message from Department Head

Welcome to the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies, College of Social Sciences and Humanities, Wachemo University. The Departmentwas established in 2012 G.C with 31 students and 6 academic staffs. Currently, the department has enrolled nearly 628 students in regular and continuing education programs. It has now 16 academic staffs, 2 lab assistants and 1 administrative staff. Among 16 academic staffs, three instructors are attending their PhD program. The department has planned to launch MSc in Geography and Environmental Studies next year with specialization of “Sustainable Natural Resources and Environmental Management”.


Since its beginning, the Department of Geography & Environmental Studies continued to develop programs at a relatively rapid rate. The broad sub-fields in the department were Human Geography, Physical Geography, GIS and Remote Sensing and Map Reading and Cartography.


The program aims to provide undergraduate and postgraduate students with both subject-specific knowledge and general skills that allow them to develop critical thinking and skill.
