Message from Head of the Department

Welcome to the Department of History and Heritage Management at Wachemo University. Department of History and Heritage Management was opened in 2009 E.C. by two instructors and 40 students. Now (2016), the department is composed of 37 students in two batches and 13 instructors. Among them, 4 instructors are learning Ph.D. programs in Ethiopia and abroad.

Although the university was recently established, it is intensely committed to undergraduate education, research, and community services. As a college of Social Science, the Department offers different courses on History, Heritage, Tourism, Archeology, Arts, and cultural issues. The department provides additional services within and outside the university in community service, research, and consulting on various socioeconomic, religious, political, and cultural issues for the community.

Students who will graduate from the Department of History and Heritage Management can serve society in the different socio-political, cultural, religious, and economic sectors as Heritage managers, tourism experts, tour guides, archeologists, researchers, and officers in various governmental and non-governmental (NGOs) organizations. In addition, the graduates serve as a History teachers in different educational institutions.

I am delighted to represent this forthcoming department, which is dedicated to providing quality education by producing qualified human resources researchers who can solve problems, develop practical solutions, and serve the community honestly.
