Department head’s message
Dear stalk holders,
As department head, I want to inform you about department of medical laboratory sciences. The
department was launched in 2009E.C. Graduated 3 batches of students with first degree (2009 – 2014
E.C). From 2009-2015E.C, it served 370 students. The department has a total of 19 instructors in
different specialities, such as (medical microbiology, parasitology, immunology, haematology,
clinical chemistry) and has 5 technical assistants. Currently the department has a total of 220
students (50 third year, 77 second year, 42 second year private regular and 51 first year private regular
students). The department plays pivotal role during an era of covid-19. The department aspires to be
centre of excellence in medical laboratory profession, by producing competent, skilled and problem
solving professional at national and international level. Apart from sharing mission, vision and goal of
the university, the department promote health of the community through addressing priority public
health problems and establishing quality laboratory system with the following specific goals.
- Facilitating patient testing by providing diagnostic services of the highest standards
- Giving awareness creation training in matters of health and diseases
- Conducting research on area of dyslipidaemia at community level
- Conducting research in area of prevalence of asymptomatic malaria
- Conducting research in area of antimicrobial resistance.
Currently, the department is on the
way of conducting internal quality assessment to accredit the program. Therefore, I want to
welcome those stalk holders who want to work with us in quality educations.
