Message from Department Head
Welcome to Department of Hadiya Language & Literature (DHLL) at the college of Social Sciences and Humanities at Wachemo University. Wachemo University is one of the newly established 9 (nine) Universities in Ethiopia. The University has begun teaching learning tasks since 2004 E.C/2011 G.C. It is one of among the third generation Universities in Ethiopia which is exhibiting a great progress in different aspects of academic fields, research and community services. We are also proud to offer in Department of Hadiya Language and Literature in this University.
The department has been opened since 2007 E.C/2014 G.C with 03 (three) instructors and 50 advanced standing students. In this department, two batches were graduated in 2009 and 2010 E.C consecutively. Currently, in the department there are 160 students in regular, 115 students in weekend (Shone center) and 503 students in summer program; totally 778 students have been perusing their BA degree in Hadiya Language and Literature and 11 instructors are offering the courses. From the eleven instructors, one instructor is attending his PhD program at Addis Ababa University and the other one instructor is MA candidate at Hawassa University. We will open MA program in linguistics field of specialization.
Hadiya language and literature department is one of the indigenous languages in East Africa. It is a language which existed for centuries in oral forms containing the culture and the history of its speakers. Even though it has been studied in research form in different universities, it is one the emerging languages to be studied in higher education particularly in its written form.
Our department is offering greater understanding in various courses offering. These courses help the graduates to develop skills in various areas associated with the relationship of humans with environment, writing and critical thinking skills, relationship of individuals in society and others.
Students graduating from our department will easily get into successful professions. The academicians and staffs are deeply committed to offer quality education that allows developing critical thinking and skills that will deliver an opportunity in their job.
Therefore, I am thrilled to represent this forthcoming department which is dedicated to provide quality education, produce qualified manpower, conduct problem solving researches and community services. I hope everybody will join this newly flourishing department to give constructive idea and to explore.
