housing need of world population is not satisfied yet now. Supply of housing is much lower than
the need in general. This gap is more reflected in developing countries with low economy. For
this reason; Inhabitants of these countries are most of the time exposed to informality or tend to
practice other coping mechanism to answer their housing need.
Ethiopia is one of these countries in which 80% of its population is living under substandard
housing which needs renewal and/or replacement.the need of new housing is also increasing in
an alarming rate.
In the case of Hosanna, the capital of Hadiya zone the problem is very worse. The city
municipality lack proper/modern land management and delivery system. For this reason the land
resource is being abused and opening a door for informal dwellers to build substandard housing
units in informally owned land.
