Objectives of the Project

The general objective of the team is to analyze urbanization, and the development of commercial and financial activities for hosanna town and its surrounding areas.

Specifically the study aims:

i. To generate base-line data and other information on the rural and urban,finance and household characteristics.

ii. To assess the opportunities and challenges of urbanization.

iii. To analyze economic impact of urbanization on the demand for commercial activities.

iv. To assess the development of commercial activities by type, employment, the condition of competition, distribution, structure according to the demand and size of the population.

v. To analyzerural – urban market enter linkages.

vi. Study the performance of finance sectors (lending capacity, saving habit of the society) and the demand and sources of finance for commercial activities in the study area.

vii. To examine factors affecting trade participation of urban population.

viii. To examine the effect of urbanization on financial demand for commercial activities.

ix. Assessing the business knowledge of business persons

Deliverables/Outcomes

i. Base line data (the socio-economic characteristics of the society) will be collected.

ii. Provide detail analysis of the market situation of hosanna town and its surrounding areas.

iii. Establish consulting and business training centers ( i.e. business plan, financial statements, cost benefit analysis).

iv. Existing and potential marketing activities will be identified.

v. Commercial activities with better employment opportunities will be identified.

vi. Improved business environment for private sector growth will be created (by reducing the impediment of limited and costly access to finance).

vii. Trained and competent entrepreneurs will be created.
