The current Institute of Technology, former Faculty of Engineering and Technology of Wachemo University,was established in 2011 based on the Regulation No. 222/2011 of the Council of Ministers of the EFDR; aiming to produce qualified multidisciplinary engineers in undergraduate and graduate programs, to excel in the production, growth and dissemination of advanced scientific knowledge through teaching and research.

It has begun its teaching and research activities with four departments viz Electrical and computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Contraction Technology and Management engineering. Nowadays, the institute has 13 departments under three schools.

The institute is oriented to advance student-centered learning as well as development in all aspects that best supports the fulfillment of the primary national goals of democratization, development and the achievement of other national priorities of the society as a response to “Let your light shine on the society” as the Wachemo University’s slogans.
